Kirby Super Star was the first action-styled Kirby game on the Super Nintendo.
Featuring more than one game-type and an unlock feature, this game lasts quite a long time as well as having a very fun play-style
for each game type. There is no centered plot, as there are five games in the classic Kirby style, a racing game, two
minigames, a boss endurance and a Sound Test.
Graphically, it seems to be the most superior game on the SNES, far outclassing
Kirby's Dreamland 3 in everything but frame rate. Most interesting is the oodles of Kirby-skills in the game, as well
as having multiple moves with each skill. Think UFO from Kirby's Adventure, only carried over to each of your favorite
skills. Now you can use Beam and charge up for a super blast, or leap over your enemies shooting little beam stars,
all with one skill. Simply press start to learn all the button combos. One of the most interesting features is
being able to create a CPU with the ability you've selected, giving you an uperhand in battle by being able to team up on
your enemies.
Each game contains its own plot, and its own system style. The first game is extremely
similar to Kirby's Dreamland plot-wise and stage-wise, and the most basic gameplay. The second game involves fending
off Dyna Blade, a giant bird, which is somewhat similar to Kirby's Adventure in some respects, but still in a completely different
class of its own. The third involves Meta Knight and a giant warship and how Kirby must stop it himself. Each
level is timed and the stages are very mechanical in look and feel. The fourth is a treasure hunt through a giant maze,
in which you have to collect tons of items in order to gain the 100% complete window. The fifth and final classic Kirby-style
game is an adventure in which you can't copy enemy abilities, but have them permanently stored within you - able to be called
upon at any time you please... but there's a catch: you have to find the ability first. You jump from planet to planet,
each has at least two abilities stored within, and finally defeat the boss. This game also contains a race game against
King Dee Dee Dee, a minigame similar to the Wild West Showdown in Adventure - only this time with Samurai, and a game
in which you must crack Pop Star in half in order to prove your strength. An extremely difficult 'Boss Endurance' stage
in which you have to defeat every boss you've ever fought in the game - and its not easy. Finally after getting 100%
in the game, you are allowed to access the Sound Test, which is basically a little feature that allows you to review all the
SFX (Sound Effects) and BGM (Background Music) in the game. (Huff, huff, huff...) Kirby Super Star is just chalk full
of stuff!
